Lark in the Park 2023

Our annual charity event, Lark in the Park, is on Sunday 4th June at the Parque Torre de Leonera in Benahavis. This is a magical outdoor, early evening event in a beautiful setting with a comedy play, a picnic, some superb entertainers and a chance for you to dance. The charity we are supporting this year is Age Concern Marbella and San Pedro.

We have an incredible line up as follows:

Headlining this year's Lark in the Park is the seriously talented Johnny G plus his special guests. Johnny G is a well-known artist, director and musician. He is a regular at some of the coast’s top night spots and we are lucky to have him perform for us at this charity event. He has a vast range of songs to get us in the party mood and he will be performing under the stars to have us out of our seats for a boogie.

We are delighted to have the very talented Melissa Carver performing for us this year too. Some of you may have seen her perform as Eliza Doolittle in the recent production of My Fair Lady at Salón Varietés theatre. She, together with John Gale, the Director, will be singing some of the memorable musical hits from the show such as Wouldn’t It Be Lovely, I Could Have Danced All Night, On The Street Where You Live, Get Me To The Church On Time.

Plus, we have the amazing choir The Andalucia Performing Arts Society, also known as T.A.P.A.S. They are led by the very talented choir director James Burn. T.A.P.A.S was formed in 2004. They have chosen a selection of Lennon and McCartney songs, plus others to perform for us at Lark. You will be singing along with the choir to some memorable Beatle hits and much more.

This year there are no Covid-19 restrictions, so we can create a real party atmosphere with over 250 people compared to last year's 120.

Carol Woolnoth from Age Concern Marbella and San Pedro will make a very short introduction on what the charity does locally and how you can support it. They will be selling raffle tickets on the day to help raise more money.

We start the evening with a very funny one-act play directed by Veronica del Cerro. It is "Midsummer Night's Dream in 17 Minutes or Less" written by Christine Harvey. The four lovers will be played by Hannah Murray as Hermia, Beverley Stonehewer as Helena, PJ Lopez as Lysander and Jamie Stonehewer as Demetrius. Royalty, Fairies, and Players will be played by Carmel Rogers, Martin Curd, Joan Foster, Paul Baker, Andrew Gommersall, Rachel Garrod, Sheila Mellor, and Eileen Audas.

Entry to the Lark is via a donation made online on our website. The minimum donation for this fabulous event is 17 € per person.

You will need to bring your own picnic and refreshments as there are no facilities of this nature in the park. We picnic on the grassed areas, some guests bring tables, chairs and even candelabra. Cushions or folded blankets are recommended for the stone seats in the auditorium.

The park is open all day and you may wish to have your picnic before the show. There will be an interval, too, in between the acts.

Parking is free in the car park underneath the Benahavis Townhall. You are advised to drop off your guests and the picnic and then park your car.
The auditorium will open at 5.15 pm and the event starts at 6.00pm. The evening finishes at around 10 pm.
