As Christmas and the New Year rapidly approach, I thought I would send you an update on our recent events and our future plans.

Our 40th Anniversary year

In early October, 64 of us met at El Campanario to celebrate the 40 years since ITS was set up way back in 1975. June Rendle, one of ITS’ longest serving members, gave an address, as did two past presidents, Barbara Mitchell and Diane Clarke. We had a wonderful meal followed by dancing with the singer “Stella” up to midnight. It was a very fitting way to celebrate our anniversary.

Our autumn production: “Waiting for Gateaux”

Almost 400 people attended the performances over the three nights in November; not quite as many who came to see “Dirty Dusting”, which was 485. However, we were delighted to see so many people supporting and enjoying our efforts. These included 54 visitors from u3a with whom we are developing a shared interest in theatre visits to the Salon, Malaga, ITS etc into the future. These will be advertised to you, as we did recently for “The Plaza Suite” in Fuengirola.

Kate Jackson, vice president, directed a strong cast and all the audiences loved it. The cast members Eileen Audas, Paul Baker, Carmel Rogers, Veronica del Cerro and Beverley Stonehewer gave the prompt, Diana King, vice president, nothing to do for three evenings! We have a number of new and younger members now and we were delighted that Ana Guerrero Ower, aged 13 years, was able to understudy Veronica in the role of “Whitney/Raven” in this production. In addition, she appeared in the dance scene.

Set building, scenery painting, lights and sound

We are urgently looking for new people to help us with set building, is there anyone out there who is a carpenter or keen DIY enthusiast, who would like to get involved with the theatre?

Also, we need new people to help us with the technical side of sound and lighting in the theatre. Experience is not necessary but would be welcome.

If you, or anyone you know, might be interested, please contact me and we can arrange a meeting to discuss what is needed with the experts we currently have. They can offer support and advice to those who may wish to learn the roles.

Our spring production

Diana King, vice president, will be directing the next production. The play is being decided on as you read this email and may be a thriller or a comedy. Auditions will be held in January and we will send out an audition notice as soon as all details are finalized.

Play reading

This year we have had fewer play readings than I would have liked but we are expecting to arrange a play reading in January 2016. More details will be sent to you as soon as these are available and we will let you know the dates of the others throughout the new year.

The ITS Board

Andrew Gommersal has recently joined the Board and already he is a real asset to us. Sadly, Maretta Ragnarsson has resigned last month due to her work commitments; she will be missed and was sincerely thanked at the last meeting for her contributions. She will still continue to be involved with ITS on an ad hoc basis and help with productions, as and when she can.

A Christmas celebration

We have decided not to organise an event in December but we will be having social get together in January instead on Saturday 23rd January. We have chosen the Cocomo Restaurant as the venue, in their new premises at the Royal Nordic Club behind the Diana Centre. The price, menu and time will be sent out very soon.

Storage Space

We are looking for dry and secure storage space for the theatre props, lights and equipment, probably about the size of a large garage. We are willing to pay rent, as our current storage space costs us a great deal of money each year and is our biggest outgoing budget-wise. If you know anywhere, please let us know.

The Annual General Meeting 2016

Looking ahead, we have a provisional date for the AGM and this is Thursday 3rd March 2016 at El Candil Bar, in San Pedro. It will start at 7.30 pm for 8pm.

ITS Presidency

I have decided not to continue as the president after the AGM in March 2016. I have been a Vice President since 2012 and then President since February 2014 and wish to feel less tied to ITS business and have more free time to travel and see my new grandchild in the UK. The nominations for president will be circulated with the AGM papers nearer the time.

I would like to wish you and your family a happy, peaceful and enjoyable Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.

Best wishes,
Carol Woolnoth
