We hope that you are enjoying the summer months, wherever you are in the world. We are delighted to bring you the dates of our first events this season.

Play Reading Evening
Andrew Gommersall has offered to lead our first event on Monday 26th September 2022 at Keto Royale Kafe in San Pedro. It is a play reading evening; this is an opportunity to read a part or to simply sit, listen and enjoy. We will meet at 6.30 pm for drinks and start reading at 7 pm with tapas served halfway through. The cost is 6€ per person for our members and 8€ per person for non-members. This includes the play reading and the tapas. All drinks are to be paid for separately please. Bookings are online via our website. We are limited to 40 places. The venue has air conditioning and on street parking.

“Behind the scenes”: the backstage team
As our brilliant and willing volunteers age gracefully each year, we regularly need to engage new people to support this work as without a good backstage team, we are nothing. We know from the application forms of many new members that some of you are interested in this role.

Our three main productions demand a strong team of known people on whom we can rely for the following: set building, set decoration, set changes, set removal, transportation, management of the storeroom, stage lighting, sound effects, technical support, prompts, properties, dressers, stagehands, etc. Some aspects of backstage work, but not all, can be physically demanding.

We are organising an informal information and recruitment evening on Wednesday 12th October 2022 for anyone interested in learning more about this work. We will be meeting at 6.30 pm for a 7 pm start. The evening will be held at Keto Royale Kafe in San Pedro and is being organised by Fiona Poole and Sheila Mellor.

Karl Maresz, our very experienced set builder and backstage guru, will be speaking at the event to provide a real flavour of what is involved. It is a voluntary role, so we will provide complimentary tapas for all attendees who book in advance. There is no charge to attend the event but please book your place using our email address: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Two Murder Mystery Nights
Diana King has written numerous Murder Mystery Plays and she will be directing one of them for two nights at Keto Royale Kafe in San Pedro on Tuesday 25th October and Wednesday 26th October 2022.

This is an interactive but relaxed experience whereby audience members listen to the play and then each character visits the audience at their tables during the meal. (In this case we are having tapas). At this point you can ask questions, if you wish, to elicit more information so that you can figure out who you think “did it”. We have not done one of these for a few years, but they are great fun.

Bookings will be available online as from 1st October 2022 via our website. Tickets are 6€ for members and 8€ for non-members. We are limited to 80 people in total over two nights including the cast. We will be meeting at 6.30 pm for a 7 pm start. Details of the play and the cast will be circulated soon.

A Halloween night
On Monday 31st October 2022, Veronica del Cerro is leading an additional event for us to celebrate Halloween with a reading of Dracula. More details to follow.

New Board members for ITS
Thank you for the good response to our request for a new treasurer. France Usher came forward. As a former chartered accountant and a former volunteer treasurer for a theatre group in Luxembourg, she is a perfect candidate. What a great match of skills and expertise!

We are very blessed that Eileen Audas, a former treasurer for ITS over many years, has been working efficiently as an assistant treasurer since she resigned from the Board a few years ago, so she is in an excellent position to help France take over the role gradually.

Eileen has completed the figures for the last production, “Towards Zero” and this shows a positive bottom-line figure of 1859.93€. She is now working on the figures for the Lark in the Park Charity event held in July.

In addition, we have Paloma Salgado joining the Board. She was a member of ITS in 1996 and appeared in “The Anniversary” in 2000. She is an experienced Spanish actor and a great stage manager.

Both France and Paloma are now co-opted onto the Board, but this will be subject to the approval of members at our AGM in February 2023. We now have eleven Board members once again.

Still searching for suitable venues
We are so lucky to have the use of Keto Royale Kafe for our smaller events that do not require a stage or set. And we thank Adam, one of the owners, for their generosity in hosting us.

However, some of the venues we normally use for our main staged productions are seriously affected by both the cost-of-living crisis and Covid. This is making it impossible to use some hotels as they are closing earlier and for longer periods then not re-opening until well into the summer season, rather than in spring. Consequently, we do not have a theatre venue for our October or March/April main productions at this point. The search continues for suitable venues. If you know of any, please let us know. Thank you.

Wedding news

Not only have Veronica del Cerro and Andrew Gommerall returned from northern Spain after a prolonged absence, but they also got married in June this year. We are delighted to welcome them back to ITS, to congratulate them and to wish them every happiness on their nuptials.

Some of you may remember they “married” several years ago with many of you as “witnesses and wedding guests” in the marketing video/advert that a local hotel made with our help!

Unusual Requests
Our website email account can, on occasion, contain some interesting requests which we just love to respond to.

* Recently, eight of our members volunteered their services to the Channel 5 television company for the programme “Bargain Loving Brits in the Sun”.

* And a couple from Canada wishing to renew their wedding vows asked us for an actor to lead their ceremony next year. Who would have known that our very own Carmel Rogers was an experienced wedding celebrant? She has done weddings and renewals including a Bob Marley themed event! Another perfect fit.

Looking ahead
We are planning a Christmas party and there are discussions about a panto, watch this space.
