AUDITION NOTICE

Four Old Broads on the High Seas, written by Leslie Kimbell, is our main Autumn 2026 production. Following on from last summer’s sell-out rehearsed play reading of Four Old Broads (July 2025), director Andrea Stevens returns to take audiences - and performers, on a riotous cruise adventure filled with mischief, mystery, and mayhem.

We look forward to welcoming actors to the auditions for this bold, high-energy comedy and to discovering a company of performers ready to embrace its larger than life characters and fast-paced farce.

ABOUT THE PRODUCTION

Four Old Broads on the High Seas is a high-energy comedic farce set aboard a Caribbean cruise where a group of spirited senior women find themselves entangled in a murder mystery.

This production embraces bold theatricality, heightened style, and
fast-paced ensemble storytelling. The humour is broad, character-driven, and rooted in strong physical and vocal work.

SEEKING
Versatile, skilled comedic actors with strong instincts for timing, character work and physicality. This production requires performers who can commit fully to the rehearsal process and who are comfortable with stylised performance, farce, and ensemble collaboration. Some characters may involve multi-role and quick transitions.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN
Beatrice Shelton - Senior woman; a bawdy, confident former burlesque dancer with sharp wit and commanding presence.

Eaddy Mae Clayton - Senior woman; deeply religious, rigid and intense, with strong comedic contrast and explosive reactions.

Sam Smith - Senior male; a former Elvis impersonator, charismatic, nostalgic and physically expressive.

Imogene Fletcher - Senior woman; bold, outspoken and grounded. Strong comic authority and presence.

Maude Jenkins - Senior woman; naive, eccentric and pageant-obsessed. Requires precise comedic innocence and timing.

Herbert - Antagonist; slick, overly polished and exaggerated. Strong physical and stylistic characterisations.

Captain Sheldon Sterling - Ship’s captain; composed and authoritative with comedic undertones.

Steven Dupree / Miss Tequila Mockingbird - A dual role requiring strong versatility: areserved porter by day and a dynamic, confident drag performer by night. Comfort with performance transformation.

Jim Rockstone / Melvin Trickle - Comic doubling role; a bumbling detective and contrasting secondary character, requires clear differentiation and physical comedy.

Horace Bumpus - Senior man; physically fragile, timid and comedic under pressure.

Edna Bumpus - Senior woman; hard of hearing, blunt and rhythmically sharp. Strong listening and timing required.
