Special Tribute to June Rendle

El Trapiche Cultural Centre
13th November 2024

7.30pm

Miles Rendle
Members - 12€ / General Admission - 15€

Miles Rendle will be directing this very special event in celebration of the life of June Rendle, who sadly passed away earlier this year. Miles will be joined by his sister Nikki who is travelling from the UK.
The evening will be a fond farewell to one of our longest standing members, and will review her life in the theatre.
The first half of the evening will be a one-act play called, "A Lovely Life" written by June, all about the secret lives of characters she had met here on the coast. After the interval, we will present a revue, full of tears and laughter and composed of extracts from some of her favourite plays and comic turns.
Miles has a great cast that includes many of your favourite actors. As of now, we know we have Veronica del Cerro, Eileen Audas, Sheila Mellor, Rebecca Flowerdew, Kate Jackson, Margaret Dunkerly and Nikki Cheetham.

Below is a eulogy read at June's funeral.
June was a lifetime, and much loved member of ITS, International Theatre Studio which is a community theatre group based here in San Pedro. Many of us here today have been fortunate to have shared the stage with her and have fond memories of her ‘in action’.
Her passion for the world of theatre was infectious to everyone around her, she not only acted and starred in many parts but she also directed and wrote her own material. She performed along the coast in many theatres and venues big and small.
She starred in numerous ITS performances including ‘Three Tall Women’ by Edward Albee, ‘An Englishman Abroad’ by Alan Bennett and most recently in ‘Lettice & Lovage’ by Peter Shaffer . Who can forget her glamorous performance and that startling red outfit as the flamboyant tour guide, Lettice Douffet.
She wrote her own book ‘Champagne & Olives’, which is a glorious tale of Golf Ladies on the Costa being conned out of their money. It’s a jolly good read.
She was a forthright director who took no nonsense, no sugar coating but always gave the truth, which is maybe the best direction of all. She directed many plays and events for ITS, most recently, ‘All About Eve’ by Mary Orr. Whether on a large theatre stage or in a small intimate venue, June could stage a play beautifully and always got the best performance from the cast.
Outside of ITS, she produced many other theatrical activities.
She provided supper theatre at La Sala in Puerto Banus with a performance of ‘84 Charing Cross Road’ by Helene Hanff.
She conducted regular theatre radio for TRE Talk Radio Europe, and with her son, Miles, she ran the Play Reading Group for UA3 from her own home. Many a great play was read aloud with friends on her terrace, the best ones were often from her own back catalogue with black & white photos provided showing her in her prime …. most memorable is a photo backstage being introduced to the Queen Mother.
She also wrote many first night play critiques as an arts correspondent for the local newspapers such as the SUR in English.
So her passion and range of talent has touched a lot of folk here on the coast, not only here at ITS but other theatre groups such as The Salon Varietes and THESPA both of which are based in Fuengirola, who both send their thoughts to her family today.
When best describing June as a member of ITS, I asked for help from the ITS Board members who knew her well. I asked them to give me one word that would best describe our June Rendle, here’s what they said…
FLAMBOYANT , PERCEPTIVE , FORMIDABLE , GLAMOROUS , DAZZLING , INCREDIBLE , UNIQUE
Yes, June was all of that and will be remembered well by her friends and fellow theatre buffs here at ITS. She was indeed, unique and will be missed every time the curtain raises for that next performance 🎭
Encore June Rendle ….. and thank you for sharing the limelight with us 🥂
